Terror in the Tonga Room
"Johnny was dripping with sweat. And his hands started to shake heavly when he went to take a drag from his cigarette. I ordered an ice cold sweet and sour something or other, with lots of rum, fruit and an umbrella in it.
" I took a long cool drink , and remember it tasting of paradise.I sat with my back to the door and listened to Johnny’s story. He said he and Mikey had gone up state, and had filmed the top secret airbase, and now had proof of the exsistance of a UFO they have stored there.
" It was all sort of freaky: he said that they had made Mikey disappear, actually the words he used was ’they vaporized Mikey’.
He said that these men were now after him.
He was about to tell me about where he had stashed his film when his jaw dropped, and he went white as a ghost. He said he had to go to the bathroom. I turned around towards the door to see what Johnny had lost colour about.
There in the back lit doorway were these men dressed in black with whiter then white shirts, and thin black ties. They looked like carbon copies of each other, and another weird thing was they all wore sun glasses, this was a pretty low lit bar. Anyway one of the men knocked my shoulder as he walked by going towards the bathroom. I was like ’excuse me...’, but he kept walking.
I waited around for two or three minutes then went back to check on Johnny. He wasn’t there and there was no back way out or a window big enough to fit through. It looked like he had disappeared.
I doubled back to the Riverview to see if Johnny had headed back that way. I filled out one of those forms at the reception as you do. The scruffy receptionist looked the form over and said that there was no Johnny Bismark staying there.I told him there most be a mistake, and asked him to take another look. He said he didn’t have to that there was no room 1005, or Johnny Bisquick living at the hotel, adding that he was going to call security if I didn’t take a hike.
"So I headed off and try to get a hold of some friends, to see if maybe they’ve seen Johnny, and it just gets stranger and stanger. So I get on the phone and call Alice his ex-girlfriend, she says that she’s never heard of this guy, and was I from the pscho ward or what. I told her to quit fooling around, she snaps back that if I bother her again she’s going to file a restraining order, then she rings off.
For a second there I really did think I was going mental.
